The year is in Los Angeles, and Miles Jameson is about to graduate from high school. The last big party of high school is approaching, along with the end of a turbulent decade, and Miles has only a vague desire to “work with his hands” (his girlfriend points out that this is a bit trite.   Daydream Nation is the kind of gorgeous monstrosity (born of extremes, rife with difficulties, and mythic in proportion) that can crush the will of the most resilient, well-intentioned listener if the necessary preparations haven't been made. Matthew Stearns explores the album from a range of angles, including a track-by-track analysis and a look at the historical and cultural context within Brand: Bloomsbury Academic.

But the radical essence of Sonic Youth is perhaps most perfectly distilled in Daydream Nation’s closing three-part statement, A,B,Z. Featuring some of the most frenzied vocal and instrumental performances on the album, it captures the band’s un-matched ability to seamlessly connect a series of themes and musical motifs into one cohesive and exhilarating : Mark Kimber. Seventeen-year-old Caroline (Kat Dennings of THE YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, NICK AND NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST, TV's 2 BROKE GIRLS) is facing a teenager's nightmare: Her widowed father has moved them from the city to a tiny town in the middle of nowhere where the major tourist attraction is an industrial fire that seems destined to burn forever.

"Daydream Nation" is Daydream nation book my least favorite book in the 33 1/3 series, simply because of the way that Matthew Stearns writes about the album at hand.

Stearns' writing is so specific in its metaphors that it's eye-rollingly obnoxious, and it's almost as if he just wants us to take his love of Sonic Youth seriously/5(40). This book serves as both a song-to-song guide of Daydream Nation and an insight into the circumstances under which it was created.

Stearns writes in a personal, frank and humorous way, giving a true feeling for the songs' effects on the listener, rather than being overbearing with notations about the musicological structure/5(23). A girl looking for kicks gets a whole lot more than she bargained for in a singularly curious town in this dark comedy.

Caroline Wexler (Kat Dennings) is a clever Daydream nation book cynical year-old whose father is still adjusting to the death of his ne's dad takes a new job and they move to a strange community where the sky is always dark thanks to an industrial fire that's been burning for.

Initially released as a two-LP set, the sheer scope of Daydream Nation was ambitious, but the longer tracks worked to Sonic Youth's advantage, allowing them the space to lay down solid melodic structures and then use them as a framework for extended jams (thankfully, the band made splendid use of their wanderlust without wearing out their welcome).Brand: Goofin Records.

Stearns wrote that Daydream Nation comprised the "Holy Trinity" of early indie rock double albums with Hüsker Dü's Zen Arcade and Minutemen's Double Nickels on the Dime, writing that the three works "together mark a period of unprecedented creative expansion in terms of the possibilities of underground (or otherwise) American rock music".Genre: Avant-rock, alternative rock, indie rock, art.

This book explores the album from a range of angles, with input from the band members themselves. Directed by Michael Goldbach. With Kat Dennings, Reece Thompson, Andie MacDowell, Josh Lucas. A city girl who moves to a small town and becomes entangled in a love triangle between her high school teacher and a stoner classmate/10(12K).

The fifth and the first major album of the group, Daydream Nation is widely considered the masterpiece of Sonic Youth. Released in October ofthe album brings avant-garde sound that. Sonic Youth made a major step forward with 's Sister, their first album where the songs were as strong as the group's visionary approach and they rocked with the force and authority they'd clearly sought since the 's Daydream Nation didn't make as decisive a leap in terms of theory or style, as far as execution was concerned, it was Sonic Youth's first unqualified 10/Daydream Nation probably hasn't been seen by many people but it should because its simply a class little film.

The story centres around Kat Dennings character who has just moved to a little hick town in America and sets her sights on Josh Lucas' teacher character.- Explore daydreamnation's board "Books" on Pinterest. See more ideas about Books, Reading lists and Reading pins.
